School Garden Instructor Training

High school students at Saint Michael Indian School. Future school garden instructors?
Our training program for school garden instructors began in the summer of 2021 working with three interns and continued through the winter working mainly in the greenhouse at Good Shepherd Mission. We had hoped to bring on at least three more interns by spring 2022. The program is currently on hold until we are able to secure funding, hopefully in time for planting this spring 2024. More details about this program are on the homepage.

Earth Restoration Leadership Training

Local college students employed as summer interns planting native trees and shrubs along terraces they constructed on hillsides to stop erosion, improve water infiltration and soil health, and increase biodiversity. Project designs and direction provided by SEEDS, 2017
In collaboration with our dear friend, John D. Liu, filmmaker and ecologist, SEEDS is exploring the possibilities for creating an Earth Restoration program on the Navajo Reservation (possibly at Saint Michael Indian School) to provide training and employment opportunities for young adult Native Americans and other young adults in a multi-cultural outdoor camp setting. Camp life would include classroom studies in the areas of environmental science associated with ecosystems restoration and watershed rehabilitation as well as project design together with all aspects of the actual hands-on work involved in implementing the projects.
The video documentaries below describe successful environmental restoration projects that are applicable and adaptable to vast areas in the western United States including reservation lands.
